The Karimia Institute is a Nottingham-based registered charity (Charity No.1089674) located in the Bobbersmill Community Centre, that is focused on encouraging and promoting ‘moral, social and spiritual development through worship, education and recreation’[1].

The Director of the institute is Musharraf Hussain al-Azhari, an advisor to the Quilliam Foundation.

The Karimia Institute hosts ‘two mosques in Nottingham, two Ofsted-registered nurseries, an independent faith school, community centre and community radio station’, known as Radio Dawn.[2]

Preventing Violent Extremism

The Karimia Institute is party to the Preventing Violent Extremism agenda and is in receipt of a total of £153,228.50 under the following PVE channels:

1. Community Leadership Fund [3][4]
2. Challenge and Innovation Fund [5]
3. Preventing Violent Extremism Pathfinder Fund [6]

The PVE funding regarding Challenge and Innovation Fund and Preventing Violent Extremism Pathfinder Fund have been directed toward the Bobbersmill Community Centre (where the offices of Karimia Institute are physically based), National Centre for Citizenship and the Law (who work in collaboration with Karimia Institute in setting up de-radicalisation workshops for 10-14 year old Muslim children)[7] and Radio Dawn (also located in Bobbersmill Community Centre).
