Jon Trickett has been the Labour Party MP for Hemsworth since 1996.[1] He was Gordon Brown's parliamentary private secretary between 2008 and 2010.[2]
In the 2015 general election Trickett was re-elected with a majority of 12,078. [3]
Trickett has been appointed Shadow Communities Secretary by Jeremy Corbyn following the party's 2015 leadership election. [4]

Stance on fracking
In July 2013, Trickett criticised the government for announcing a substantial tax cut for fracking firms, and accused the prime minister of having a conflict of interest having hired Lynton Crosby as his chief campaign strategist in 2012, who has business interests in shale gas. Trickett said:

Trickett's constituency includes four shale licence blocks, awarded by the Oil and Gas Authority under the 14th licensing round in 2015. Two of these were awarded to IGas, one to Celtique Energy and one to Hutton Energy. There are plans for four shale wells and to conduct 2D and 3D seismic surveying, but no applications are currently underway. [7]
