John Thorne is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Cohesion a think tank set up by Civitas "following widespread and longstanding concern about the diminishing sense of community in Britain"[1].

John Thorne is a journalist who has reported from the Middle East, Europe, the UK and North Africa for The Christian Science Monitor, The San Francisco Chronicle, Haaretz and other publications. Before joining the Centre for Social Cohesion, he served as North Africa Reporter for The Associated Press, based in Rabat, Morocco.

Since 2005 he has been a Contributing Editor for The Liberal, a London magazine of politics, culture and poetry. He holds an MA in Mediterranean Studies from King's College London.

Born in Seattle and raised on nearby Bainbridge Island, Thorne has lived in six European and Arab-world countries and travelled in over twenty. He speaks French, Italian, Spanish, Arabic and Romanian.[2].
