John N L Morrison is a Senior Fellow at the Brunel Centre for Intelligence and Security Studies According to a Brunel University biographical note:

John Morrison joined the Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS) in 1967 as a desk analyst. During his Ministry of Defence career he occupied a wide range of analytical and management positions in the DIS, was posted twice to the Cabinet Office’s Joint Intelligence Organisation, latterly as Secretary to the Joint Intelligence Committee (JIC). He attended the National Defence College in 1977 and the Royal College of Defence Studies in 1993.
Following a tour as Director-General of Management and Support (Intelligence), his DIS career culminated with his appointment as its senior civilian intelligence professional (2-star equivalent), serving four years as Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Head of the Defence Intelligence Analysis Staff. During this period he represented the DIS as a member of the JIC, was UK representative to the NATO Intelligence Board and Head of Profession for MoD Intelligence Analyst classes. On electing to take early retirement in 1999 he was selected by the parliamentary Intelligence and Security Committee to be its first Investigator, a position he held until 2004.[1]
