John McKeague was a Northern Ireland loyalist. He came to prominence in 1969 as chairman of the Shankill Defence Association. He played a part in the loyalist bombing campaign, attributed at the time to the IRA, which led to the resignation of Captain Terence O'Neill as Northern Ireland Prime Minister. In the early 1970s he founded the paramilitary Red Hand Commando. He was later the subject of rumours linking him to the Kincora affair. He was shot dead by the INLA in January 1982.[1]
