John Maxton, also known as Lord Maxton, became a Labour Party member and life peer in the House of Lords in July 2004. [1]

Maxton was the MP for Glasgow Cathcart from 1979 to 2001. During this time he also served as opposition Scottish and treasury whip in 1985 and opposition frontbench spokesperson for Scotland from 1985 until 1992. [2]
