Joanna Cherry is the Scottish National Party (SNP) MP for Edinburgh South West, having won the seat in the general election in May 2015.

Cherry won with a majority of 8,135 over her closest rival Ricky Henderson, the Labour Party candidate who replaced Alistair Darling following his resignation at the end of 2014. [1]

As a first-time MP, Cherry says that she entered politics 'because I wanted to make a difference. My values are on the progressive left'. [2]

Cherry is among 50 new SNP MPs to have been voted into parliament in the 2015 general election. Of this significant feat she said, 'the people of Scotland have spoken very loudly tonight. It’s time for their voice to be held at Westminster'.[2]
