Joan Ryan has been the Labour Party member of Parliament for Enfield North since the 2015 general election. She was previously the MP from 1997 to 2010.

In the 2010 election Ryan failed to be re-elected following the expenses scandal which saw her ordered to repay some £5,000 in mortgage interest which she had 'overclaimed'. She had also claimed more than £4,500 for work on her home, including fence repairs, cleaning the back garden and redecorating her living room. [1]

Having lost her constituency battle in 2010, Ryan was given a payoff of £50,517. Despite this, she has been recalled by the party to stand for the Enfield North seat in the upcoming 2015 general election. [2]
