The Institute of Public Relations was created in 1948 as a 'professional' body for PR practitioners. In 2005 it was awarded a royal Charter and became the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. It should not be confused with the US based Institute for Public Relations.

Resources

The records of the Institute up to 1983 are available at the History of Advertising Trust Archive. The catalogue has been digitised by the National Archives and can be accessed online here.
