The Institute of Physics (IOP) is a scientific charity devoted to increasing the practice, understanding and application of physics. Formed in 1874 as the Physical Society of London and merging with the Institute of Physics in 1960, they "engage with policymakers and the general public to develop awareness and understanding of the value of physics."[1]
