Hugo Swire

Hugo Swire MP served as minister of state at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office between September 2012 and July 2016.[1] Before this, Swire was minister of state at the Northern Ireland Office from 2010 to 2012.[2] Swire has been the MP for East Devon since 2001. [3] In the 2015 general election Swire was re-elected once again, gaining a majority of 12,261. [4]

Background

His previous parliamentary roles have included: parliamentary private secretary (PPS) to Theresa May MP in her role as chairman of the Conservative Party in 2003; Opposition Whip between 2003 and 2004; and Shadow Minister for the Arts between 2004 and 2005.[1]

In 2005, Swire secured £30,000 from British American Tobacco for a statue of Sir Walter Raleigh in the East Devon village of East Budleigh.[5]

Roles outside Westminster

In October 2016, Swire sought the advice of the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments about taking up a part time role as advisor to KIS (France), a manufacturing firm dealing in photo booths and mini labs. The committee noted KIS is a subsidiary of Photo-Me plc, which Swire had previously been associated with when in opposition, but did not find this to be of concern. ACOBA advised that he be banned from any lobbying activity for two years from his last day in office, and he took up the role in November 2016. [6]
