General Fouad Alam is an Egyptian terrorism and security expert who was previously a powerful member of the Egyptian regime and involved in violent repression of the Muslim brotherhood.
Allam is the former deputy head of the Egyptian state security police. Following Anwar el-Sadat's assassination in 1981 he was involved in a campaign of terror against radical Islam which included unlawful arrest, detention without trial, and torture to force confessions. Thousands of suspected terrorists were rounded up and jailed. Ater September 11th he emerged as a terrorism expert and commentator on radical Islam.
