FoodDrinkEurope (formerly known as the Confederation des Industries Agro-Alimentaires in French or the Confederation of Food and Drink Industries of the EEC in English) was created in 2011.[1]

History

FoodDrinkEurope has its origins in the Commission of Food and Drink Industries set up by the EU employers' confederation UNICE (now BusinessEurope]]). UNICE founded the CIAA (Confederation of Food and Drink Industries of the EEC) in 1982 to replace the Commission.[1] According to its own account 'CIAA became a key stakeholder, working with European and international institutions on issues impacting on the food and drink industry.' [1] On 23 June 2011, CIAA became FoodDrinkEurope and 'will continue to speak for the industry, representing both the industry’s traditions and potential.'[1]
