Fiyaz Mughal is a former politician who has been actively involved in counter-extremism initiatives since 2005. He was appointed to the Working Group for Communities that was linked to the Extremism Task Force Group set up by Tony Blair following the 7/7 bombings in 2005.

Fiyaz was previously an elected Councillor in Oxford (2002-2004) and Haringey (2006-2010) and Deputy President (2007-2008) of the Liberal Democrats political party in the UK. He is no longer active in any party. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. He was awarded an OBE in 2009 in recognition of his services to the voluntary sector.[1]

He is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the annual No2H8 Crime Awards.[2]

He has been a vocal critic of some Muslim grassroots organisations. At a Home Affairs Committee meeting on Tuesday 13 December 2016 he attacked both CAGE and MEND, accusing them of attacking TellMAMA because they perceive the organisation as “Jew friendly”. The full committee hearing can be viewed here.
