Fiona Bruce

Fiona Bruce has been the UK Conservative Party Member of Parliament for Congleton Constituency since 2010, retaining her seat in the 2015 general election with a majority of 16,773. [1]

Bruce trained as a lawyer and qualified as a solicitor in 1981 before going on to set up Fiona Bruce LLP, a successful law firm. Despite being elected in 2010 and though this role occupies much of her time she has remained a senior partner at the firm and is said to be actively involved in the management and future of the firm through her weekly presence at the firm’s offices in Stockton Heath. [2]

Against legalisation of same-sex marriage

In March 2012 Bruce lent her name to a petition by the Coalition for Marriage, a pressure group opposed to the UK government's consultation and plans to legalise same-sex marriages by 2015. She explained:

"Primarily I am supporting it as a mother, as well as an MP, because research shows over different cultures and different ages that children flourish when they are brought up in a secure family environment, and this traditionally has been marriage."[3]

Background

Bruce is a winner of the business woman of the year award "Women into Business" for her community law firm Fiona Bruce & Co LLP, based in Cheshire.
