The '''Directorate-General for Justice, Freedom and Security''' is one of the European Commission's 36 departments which oversees the implementation of EU law. Originally a small task force for justice and home affairs set up in 1992, it was expanded into a full directorate-general in October 1999. It is the newest and smallest Commission department, with approximately 320 officials out of a total of 17,000 Commission officials. It is made up of seventeen policy units, split into four directorates:

*Directorate A: General Affairs
*Directorate B: Immigration, Asylum and Borders
*Directorate C: Civil Justice, Rights and Citizenship
*Directorate D: Internal security and criminal justice
