==Background==
Prior to a career in politics, Davies worked for [[British Steel]] as well as the [[Territorial Army]] where he served for 18 months as a Gunner with 104 Air Defence Regiment at Raglan Barracks Newport. <ref name= "Davies"/>

In 1999 he helped to set up and run the anti-Welsh Assembly campaign. <ref name= "Davies"/> When the Assembly was established he stood for Monmouthshire and promoted his ideals of being against the whole principle of devolution and promised to oppose further powers and stand for the Union.
