Chris Bryant

Chris Bryant has been the Labour Party MP for Rhondda since 2001, retaining his seat in the 2015 general election with a majority of 7,455. [1] In May 2015, Bryant was appointed shadow secretary of state for culture, media and sport. [2] In the wake of the 2015 leadership election, Bryant has now moved into the position of Shadow Commons Leader, having declined the post of Shadow Defence Secretary, citing disagreements over defence issues with newly elected leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Bryant joined the Labour Party in 1996, after a career in the Church and as a writer, as chair of the Christian Socialist Movement and a Hackney Councillor. [3] Since being elected in 2001, Bryant has carried out a number of different role in parliament including deputy leader of the House of Commons (2008-09), parliamentary under-secretary (2009), shadow minister for Europe (2010), shadow minister for home affairs (2011-13) and shadow minister for work and pensions (2013-14).
