Since 1992 he has been an international businessman, currently serving on the board of a number of major companies including Caterpillar and Textron in the US, LVMH in France, Schindler in Switzerland, Yell Group in the UK and Mandarin Oriental Hotels which is Bermuda-based.

Lord Powell is also a member of the Advisory Boards of Rolls-­Royce, Hicks Muse, Magna Corporation, Barrick Gold, Thales, GEMS and Diligence. Among other roles, he is President of the China-Britain Business Council, Chairman of Atlantic Partnership, Chairman of the Trustees of the Oxford University Business School Foundation and is a Trustee of the British Museum and of the Aspen Institute in the USA. He is a cross-bench member of Britain’s Upper House of Parliament, the House of Lords, where he serves on the Economic Affairs Committee. He is Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Entrepreneurship.
