Bill Rammell was the Labour member of parliament for Harlow between 1997 and 2010.
After leaving his seat in the 2010 general election, Rammell was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor Student Experience and Internationalisation at the University of Plymouth until 2012 and is now Vice Chancellor of the University of Bedfordshire.

Career
Rammell stood unsuccessfully in the 1992 general election in Harlow, gaining 41.8 percent of the vote to the Conservative's Jerry Hayes' 47 percent. In 1997 he won with 54.1 percent, 47.8 percent in 2001 and 41,4 percent in 2005. In 2010 he lost to Robert Halfon of the Conservative Party, after gaining 33.7 percent of the vote.[1] Whilst in parliament he held the roles of parliamentary under-secretary to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and minister of state to the Department for Education and Skills, Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Ministry of Defence.[2]
