Arik Fraimovich is an Israeli software developer.[1] According to the "About" page on his blog, Fraimovich is a consultant for the Israeli Ministry of Defence and a student at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya.[2] He has since stated on Twitter that he no longer works for the Ministry of Defence.[3]

Fraimovich's Facebook friends include Avi Dichter (former Israeli Minister of Public Security and former head of intelligence agency Shin Beth) and Benjamin Netanyahu.[4]

Ministry of Defence

Fraimovich's LinkedIn profile notes the following commendation for his defence work:

Award of excellence (“Makor Ha’im”/"מקור חיים") from Israeli Elite Technological Intelligence unit commander (Brigadier General), 2006.[5]

Topify

Fraimovich is a co-founder of Topify, an email notification application for the Twitter social networking service, along with Ouriel Ohayon.[6] He is also involved with another Twitter application, Mr Tweet.[7]

QassamCount

According to Jay Meydad, Fraimovich is the creator of QassamCount[8], a Twitter account which follows rocket attacks on southern Israel from the Gaza Strip.[9]

The Jerusalem Post described QassamCount as a cornerstone of an online campaign run out of the IDC Herzliya in the wake of Operation Cast Lead, the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip in early 2009.

Many supporters of Israel have grown frustrated with hostile feedback posted to Web articles and on blogs since the start of Operation Cast Lead nine days ago. A group of Israeli students has decided to fight back.
HelpUsWin.org is manned by social media experts and Israel activists around the clock, with the main "situation room" based at the Interdisciplinary Center, Herzliya, and sponsored by the Stand With Us education organization. Social media are primarily Internet- and mobile-based tools for sharing and discussing information.[10]

2009 Iranian election

Fraimovitch is the creator of the website helpiranelection.com, a page created to "Show support for the people who fight for democracy at Iran", aimed particularly at users of the Twitter social networking service.[11]

Challenged by an Egyptian Twitter user about his relationship with the Israeli Ministry of Defence, Fraimovich responded:

a. I no longer work for MOD; b. while I don't like their administration, I do have sympathy for the people.[12]

Gilad Shalit

Fraimovich has also created a similar application which allows Twitter users to add a blue ribbon to their avatar in support of Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier held captive by Hamas.[13]
