The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the Impact of Shale Gas was set up in March 2018. Its purpose is to 'explore and debate legislation, policy, regulation and data on shale gas exploration and extraction in the UK and abroad'.

The APPG is chaired by Conservative MP Lee Rowley, who has vociferously opposed plans by the giant petrochemical firm Ineos to explore for shale gas at Bramleymoor in the village of Marsh Lane. Rowley is one of three APPG member MPs whose constituencies include shale gas exploration licences held by Ineos.

Co vice-chair Sir Kevin Barron MP represents Rother Valley, which includes another controversial Ineos site at Harthill village in South Yorkshire which in June 2018 gained planning permission. Vice-chair Labour MP Louise Haigh's Sheffield Heeley constituency is in two Ineos licence areas.

Conservative MP Ben Bradley is also a vice-chair. [1]

More recent members include Labour MP Ruth George and another vice-chair Lord Truscott. [2]

Activities

The APPG held its first session at Westminster on the impact of shale gas exploration on 18 June 2018.
