The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the Impact of Shale Gas was set up in March 2018. Its purpose is to 'explore and debate legislation, policy, regulation and data on shale gas exploration and extraction in the UK and abroad'.
The APPG is chaired by Conservative MP Lee Rowley, who has vociferously opposed plans by giant petrochemical firm Ineos to explore for shale gas at Bramleymoor in the village of Marsh Lane. Rowley is one of three APPG member MPs whose constituencies include shale gas exploration licences held by Ineos. Co vice-chair Sir Kevin Barron MP represents Rother Valley, which includes another controversial Ineos site at Harthill. Labour MP Louise Haigh's Sheffield Heeley constituency is in two Ineos licence areas.
