The American Zionist Emergency Council (AZEC) was established in 1943 by Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver. In 1949 it was renamed the American Zionist Council, and registered as a tax-exempt non-profit organization.[1] It was the parent organization of AIPAC. In 1970 it changesd its name again to the American Zionist Federation (May 1970) and became the American Zionist Movement in 1993 - the umbrella organisation for American Zionist organisations.[2]
