Stephen Hickey is the former director general of the [[Department for Transport]].

==Career==
In 1974 he joined the [[Department of Health and Social Security]] as a fast track 'fast stream' trainee, working there between 1974 and 1988.

In 1994 he was the chief executive of the [[Civil Service College]] for 4 years.

In 1999 he started working in the [[Department for Work and Pensions]], holding the position of director general and principal finance officer, before transferring to the [[Department for Transport]] as director general between 2003 and 2008.
