Huxter started his career as a teacher in Heston School, London from 1983-1985.

He then held roles in the [[Foreign Office]], before becoming Private Secretary to [[Peter Mandelson]] and [[Michael Heseltine]].

From 1998 to 2002 he was a Counsellor at the [[British Embassy Paris]] before becoming Director at the [[UK Department of Trade and Industry]].
