'''Paul Double''' is Remembrancer of the [[City of London]], dubbed the 'world's oldest institutional lobbyist' by journalist Nicholas Shaxson.

Former barrister Double took up the role in 2003. Officially his work is described as 'looking after the City of London Corporation’s interests in Parliament'.

With a budget of £5.3 million and a team including six lawyers, Double is well-equipped to scrutinise whether proposed new legislation will benefit or damage the City's banks.

Campaigners and politicians have called for this archaic role to be abolished, arguing that Double is the only non-MP or civil servant with a seat in the [[House of Lords]] and [[House of Commons]]. He sits to the right of the Speaker of the House.
