Cha is a former deputy chairman of the [[Securities and Futures Commission]] in Hong Kong; non-executive director of [[Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Services]] Limited; non-executive director of [[Tata Consultancy Services]] Limited; chairman of the [[University Grants Committee]] in Hong Kong; chairman of the [[Independent Commission Against Corruption]] advisory committee on corruption; member of the advisory board of the [[Yale School of Management]]; non-executive director of the [[Bank of Communications Co]] Ltd; non-executive director of [[Baoshan Iron and Steel Co]] Limited; and non-executive director of [[Johnson Electric Holdings]] Limited.

She was also formerly vice chairman of the [[China Securities Regulatory Commission]], 'the first person outside mainland China to join the Central Government of the People's Republic of China at vice-ministerial rank'.

She joined HSBC in March 2011 and sits on the board at the bank.
