Her main clinical interests are the assessment, investigation and management of severe psychiatric illness in elderly people Dr Livingston also has special expertise in the psychiatric impact of trauma. She has assessed over 1500 personal injury claimants, both pursuers and defenders (claimant/defendant) to prepare medical reports and has also received instructions in terms of Woolf rules. Dr Livingston is also experienced in criminal injury compensation claims and childhood sexual abuse claims. She assessed and subsequently reviewed three years later, claimants in Lockerbie following the terrorist disaster in that town. These studies have been published in the scientific literature.
