Sir [[Edward Du Cann]] was Conservative MP for Taunton from 1956-1987. He served as Economic Secretary to the Treasury and Minister of State at the Board of Trade in 1963-64. He became chairman of the [[Conservative Party]] in 1964 after the Labour election victory that year. Hhe was chairman of the [[1922 Committee]] for 12 years from 1972. He was chairman of the merchant bank [[Keyser Ullman]] from 1970 to 1975.
