A truth and reconciliation commission is a committee that is set up to uncover past wrongdoing by a government or other body in the hope of reconciling past conflicts. South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Committee was set up in 1995 by President Nelson Mandela after the abolition of the Apartheid regime.
