Tony Williams is the alias of an undercover officer with the Special Demonstration Squad, who was deployed 1978-1982 against the Revolutionary Communist Tendency and Direct Action Movement.[1] The Undercover Policing Inquiry chair, John Mitting, described Williams' deployment as 'unremarkable'.[2]

He is also referred to by the cipher HN20 (for the N cipher system, see the N Officers page).

In the Undercover Policing Inquiry

  • Jan 2018, directed that restriction orders applications to be submitted by end of Jan 2018.[3]
  • March 2018: further information sought by Inquiry before making a decision.[4]
  • April 2018: Mitting minded to publish cover name but restrict real name.[2]
  • May 2018: cover name published.[1]
