Tony Williams is the alias of an undercover officer with the Special Demonstration Squad, who was deployed 1978-1982 against the Revolutionary Communist Tendency and Direct Action Movement.[1] The Undercover Policing Inquiry chair, John Mitting, described Williams' deployment as 'unremarkable'.[2]

  • April 2018: Mitting minded to publish cover name but restrict real name.[2]
  • May 2018: cover name published.[1]
  • July 2018: Inquiry says Mitting is still minded to restrict the officer's real name[5] and publishes the open application to this effect from the Metropolitan Police.[6]
