Stewart Goodman is the cover name used by a former undercover officer with the Special Demonstration Squad who was deployed into the Anti-Apartheid Movement and the International Socialists 1970 to 1971.[1] For the purposes of the Undercover Policing Inquiry and Operation Herne, they are also referred to by the cipher HN339 (for the N cipher system see N officers).

According to John Mitting, Chair of the Undercover Policing Inquiry: 'Apart from one incident of no relevance to the Inquiry, there is no known allegation of misconduct against him'.[2] Currently in early 70s and economically active.[2] Currently in early 70s and economically active.[2]

In the Undercover Policing Inquiry

  • 14 Nov 2017: extension sought to deal with HN339 in a future tranche.[3]
  • 29 Nov 2018: Application to restrict real name made by Metropolitan Police.[4]
  • 15 Jan 2018: 'Minded-to' grant restriction order over real name; no application in relation to cover name which will be published in due course.[5][2]
  • 15 May 2018: ruled that real name will be restricted.[6]
  • 8 April 2018: cover name and target groups published.[1]
