Stephen Hickey is a former director general of the Department for Transport.

Career

In 1974 he joined the Department of Health and Social Security as a fast track 'fast stream' trainee, working there between 1974 and 1988.

In 1994 he was the chief executive of the Civil Service College for 4 years.

In 1999 he started working in the Department for Work and Pensions, holding the position of director general and principal finance officer, before transferring to the Department for Transport as director general between 2003 and 2008. Between May 2003 and October 2003 he held the role of acting chief executive at the Highways Agency.[1]
