Sean Williams is a director at BT, a former executive director of the Office of Fair Trade, member of the board of Ofcom and special advisor in the Prime Minister's Policy Unit.

Career

Williams was a special advisor in the Prime Minister's Policy Unit from 1995 to 1997, a partner at LEK Consulting between 1997 and 2003 and joined Ofcom in March 2003, before being promoted to the board in January 2006.[1] At Ofcom he led their transformation of fixed line telecoms regulation, including the operational separation of BT.

In 2007 he was appointed executive director of the Office of Fair Trade markets and projects division, however he left after less than a year amid criticism of the Office of Fair Trade's handling of a string of high-profile investigations.[2]

In September 2008 he was appointed managing director, retail strategy at BT Group Plc, the role was approved by ACOBA "subject to the condition that, for 12 months from his last day of service, he should not become personally involved in lobbying UK Ministers or Crown servants, including Special Advisers, on behalf of his new employer".[3] and was promoted to director of strategy, policy and portfolio in April 2011.
