Rosie Cooper

Rosie Cooper is a Member of Parliament (MP) for the British Labour Party. She represents the constituency for West Lancashire. She was elected to parliament in the May 2005 General Election with a majority of 6,084 votes.[1] In the 2015 general election she retained her seat with an increased majority of 8,360. [2]

‬‬ Cooper’s constituency includes two shale licence blocks, both awarded to Aurora Energy by the Oil and Gas Authority under the 14th licensing round in 2015. There are plans to conduct 2D and 3D seismic surveying; no applications or plans for shale wells are currently underway. [3]

Voting record

Cooper has generally voted against increased regulations on fracking . [4]

  • 26 January 2015: voted in favour of making fracking companies apply for an environmental permit before conducting exploratory drilling. She also voted in favour of an amendment to the Infrastructure Bill to include an 18 month moratorium on fracking.
  • 11 February 2015: absent for a vote on requiring more pre-conditions for where fracking can take place.
  • 16 December 2015: absent for a vote on weakening regulations on fracking in protected areas and national parks.
