Labour’s 80-year-long control of Kirkcaldy came to an end when Mullin won the seat with a majority of 9,974 and gained a share of 52 per cent of the vote. The seat was previously held by Gordon Brown before he retired in March of 2015. Brown was replaced by Kenny Selbie who finished second in the election results.
