Robin Shepherd

Robin Shepherd is Director of International Affairs at the Henry Jackson Society and a former Senior Research Fellow at Chatham House specialising in Europe.[1]

Shepherd studied Russian at the University of London’s School of Slavonic and East European Studies and gained a master's degree in political theory from the London School of Economics.[2]

He worked in journalism until 2003, with his last position being Moscow bureau chief of the Times. In that year he became a public policy fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Institute for Scholars in Washington D.C. where he worked on the expansion of NATO and the EU and its impact on transatlantic relations. He then became an adjunct fellow of the Centre for Strategic and International Studies based in Central Europe. In 2006 he was appointed as a senior transatlantic fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the United States, remaining based in Central Europe. In June 2007, he moved to London where he joined Chatham House to run their Europe programme.[3]

According to Shepherd's own account, his departure from Chatham House was occasioned by the think-tanks's disapproval of his defence of Israel in a January 2008 Times article.[4]

Shepherd joined the Henry Jackson Society in March 2009.[4]

Shepherd is the owner/publisher of The Commentator.[5]
