Paul Murphy

Paul Murphy was the Labour Party member of Parliament (MP) for Torfaen from 1987 to 2015. He served as Minister of State, Northern Ireland Office (Minister for Political Development) 1997-99; Secretary of State: for Wales 1999-2002, for Northern Ireland 2002-05; Chairman, Intelligence and Security Committee 2005-08; Secretary of State for Wales 2008-09.[1]

Murphy announced in January 2015 he would not be contesting the 2015 general election as it 'would be better for a younger person to carry the Labour flag in our valley'.[2] He was replaced by Nick Thomas-Symonds who held the seat.[3]
