The Open Republic Institute

The Open Republic Institute is a member of the Economic Freedom Network (EFN), which is a network of institutions who collectively publish the Annual Economic Freedom of the World Report.

Based in Ireland the Open Republic Institute works in accordance with many institutions worldwide through the Economic Freedom Network. Institutions involved in the Economic Freedom Network are:TIGRA of Austria;The Albanian Center for Economic Research;Center for New Europe, Belgium;Fundacion Libertad in Argentina;Liberalni Institut of the Czech Republic; the Center for Politiske Studier, Denmark;The Institute of Public Affairs in Australia; The Nassau Institute, Bahamas; The Estonian Institute for Open Society Research;Making Our Economy Right in Bangladesh;Association pour la Liberté Economique et le Progrès Social (ALEPS) in France; Scientific Research Mises Center of Belarus; Liberales Institutof Germany; Fundación Libertad, Democracia y Desarrollo in Bolivia; Szazadveg Policy Research Center in Hungary; Instituto Liberal do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil; Centro Einaudi in Italy; Institute for Market Economics in Bulgaria; [[ Lithuanian Free Market Institute]] in Lithuania; Instituto Libertad y Desarrollo in Chile; Fundación DL in Columbia;

The Fraser Institute in Canada; and the Cato Institute in the USA.

The purpose of the Open Republic Institute is “to create awareness of the role played by markets and private institutions — for example, businesses, the Internet, charitable organisations, the family and religion — in meeting economic and social challenges� (Open Republic Institute, www.openrepublic.org). It is interested in all public policy areas where markets or institutions with voluntary membership can play a role."It is an educational organisation providing access for policy-makers and the general public to new non-government and non-vested interest centred policy thought and debate"(www.openrepublic.org).


The ORI is not a representative nor political body, it also does not possess any corporate body views of its own.

The ORI does not receive any support from the state, it is a non-profit organisation which receives funds from private investors.


The ORI’s method is to:

Fund and publish policy analysis Host events (conferences, seminars and lectures) that will focus on public policy Facilitate discussion between policy analysts, Government, political parties, departmental policy-experts and NGOs Ensure media awareness of policy thinking that is free of public and private-sector vested-interests (www.openrepublic.org)
