Background

Novartis was created in 1996 through the merger of Ciba-Geigy and Sandoz. It has operations in 140 countries with its head office located in Switzerland.[1]

PR, Lobbying and Business Intelligence firms

Novartis is listed as a client for Business Insights[5] and Int/ext Communications.[6]

In 2008, Novartis is listed as a client of Innovex[7] and as a past or current client for FischerAppelt Kommunikation[8] and The Gorlin Group[9]. They are also listed as a member of the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations.[10]

In 2008, Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics is listed as a client of the Podesta Group.[11]

Affiliations

Novartis provided generous support for the Expert Consensus Guideline Series: Treatment of Schizophrenia 1999 an initiative aiming at establishing uniform medication guidelines for schizophrenia[12]. It is reported that this was an initiative 'supported exclusively by 6 pharmaceutical companies: Eli Lilly and Company, Janssen Pharmaceutica Inc., Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Pfizer Inc. and Zeneca Pharmaceuticals' (now known as AstraZeneca). Michael Hogan and Laurie Flynn were also involved in this initiative.

In 2004, Novartis Pharma AG is reported to have entered into a license agreement with ChemSource Corporation (a subsidiary of IVAX Corporation) 'to utilize the patented multi-dose dry powder inhaler, Airmax, for Novartis's trademarked medicines Foradil and Miflonide in the European Union and certain other countries'[13].

Novartis has been a donor to the Science Media Centre from 2010-2013 according to the SMC.[14]

Norvartis Pharmaceuticals UK Ltd is reported to have sponsored the Labour Party in excess of £5,000 in 1997[16].
