National Secular Society
The National Secular Society (NSS), established in 1866 under Charles Bradlaugh, is a British non-profit organisation which campaigns for a separation of religion and state. Its end goal is a secular democracy in which all citizens can live together cohesively, regardless of their religious – or lack of religious – beliefs. It further seeks to challenge the influence of religion on governments and public life, to provide a secular voice in the media, and to defend freedom and equality. The NSS purports to be a non-party-political organisation with members from a range of political backgrounds and professions, and affirms that its campaigning is supported entirely by members and supporters – without funding from government or public bodies.[1][2]
