The Organisation

MEMRI is an organisation which promotes itself as a link between the West and the Middle East. It's primary purpose is to translate Arabic, Persian and Turkish media events and reports so as to close the gap between East and West reportings.

The primary purpose of these translations is to inform people on the debate over U.S policy in the Middle East.

The organisation was founded in 1998 by Meyrav Wurmser and Colonel Yigal Carmon, formerly of Israeli military intelligence.

It is advertised as a non-profit making, non-partisan and independendt source of information.

"According to Jim Lobe, MEMRI specializes in translating and distributing 'particularly virulent anti-U.S. and anti-Israel articles appearing in the Arab press to key U.S. media and policymakers'" web.
