Mentor UK is the UK branch of the Mentor Foundation an international charity that works with young people to prevent drug misuse. A small charity with a staff of 8, they work with young people and influence drug prevention policy while supporting good practice and research. [1]After 7 UK public Health Organisations refused to participate in the UK Government’s Alcohol Responsibility Deal Network Mentor UK stepped into assist. They co-chair the Department of Health's Responsibility Deal Alcohol Network's working group on alcohol education with Bruce Ray form Bacardi Brown Forman.


Projects

  • Drug Education Forum Collaborates with Department for Children, Schools and Families and participated in the government's guidance on drug education in schools
  • EU Kinship Carers project This project operates in UK, Belgium, Sweden, Lithuania, Spain, Italy and Romania designed to help support carers of those affected by drug misuse
  • Peer Alcohol Education Project Based in Scotland this project recruits peer educators who have developed and deliver education to reduce alcohol related harm to a small amount of people (180 in 2010) at risk of alcohol misuse. There are plans to deliver the course to 120 parents and professionals in 2011.
  • CHAMP Awards
  • BME and Rural Alcohol Project Is a pilot of six prevention programmes delivered to rural and immigrant communities.
