Matt Cooke is a former special adviser at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills from June 2009 till May 2010 for Pat McFadden. [1]

Since then Cooke has worked as campaign director and chief of staff for Oona King for the Labour Party Mayoral selection for the 2012 London Mayoral elections.

Cooke now works as chief of staff to Evgeny Lebedev, the Russian-born British chairman and owner of both Evening Standard Ltd and The Independent newspapers. [1]

Cooke is described as a "Strategy, communications, policy and campaigns specialist with many years experience in Westminster and Whitehall and within Local Government at the highest levels including direct political strategy and policy advice to Ministers and Secretary of State."

Cooke is also a Labour councillor up in north London, in the Borough of Haringey.
