Maria Allen was appointed special adviser for the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in 2013. She initially worked for DECC ministers Greg Barker MP and Baroness Verma, but has been working for Amber Rudd, the parliamentary under secretary of state for climate change, since July 2014.

Allen was appointed at the insistence of the Prime Minister David Cameron, to support the Conservative Ministers at the DECC. [1]

From lobbyist to SPAD

A former lobbyist, Allen worked as the public affairs manager (account director) for high-profile lobbying firm Burson-Marsteller for six years from 2007 until 2013. Before this, she was an intern at Societe Generale Equipment Finance in 2005 for six months. [2]

Allen was also a researcher for the Institute of Economic Affairs,a seminal free market think-tank based in London, in 2005. [2]

Education

Allen attended the London School of Journalism in 2010. She also obtained an MSc in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2007. Allen went to the University of Bristol where she studied Politics and French in 2002. [2]
