Revision as of 14:19, 24 November 2009

The Marconi Corporation was created in 1999 by the renaming of the General Electric Company (GEC), minus the Marconi Electronic Systems business.

The Marconi Corporation is not the same as the Marconi Company, though they are linked historically.

The Marconi Corporation dealt in computer services, computer network services, communication equipment, and computer network management services.[1]

In 2005 Marconi Corporation agreed to sell the bulk of its assets and its name to Swedish communications firm Ericsson in a deal worth about £1.2bn ($2.1bn). The deal saw Marconi's telecoms equipment business bought by Ericsson, leaving the UK firm with its services business, which was renamed Telent.[2] The acquisition was completed in January 2006.[3]

History

2000: General Electric Company was renamed the Marconi Corporation plc.[4]
