Background

Merck Sharp & Dohme Limited (MSD) is the UK subsidiary of Merck and Co. Inc.[1] It has two sites in the UK, its headquarters and pharmaceutical research and development laboratories in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire; and its manufacturing at Cramlington in Northumberland.

In December 2007, MSD UK report partnership with The Science Media Centre, an allegedly 'independent' organisation which 'acts as a press office for science when science hits the headlines'. MSD has been supporting the work of the Science Media Centre annually since 2004 through the provision of an unrestricted educational grant (amount unspecified).[5]

MSD has been a donor to the Science Media Centre from 2003-2013 according to the SMC.[6]
