Kurt Schaefer was a leader of the Communist Right Opposition in Britain in the 1930s, according to the Security Service. Sir Vernon Kell stated in a letter to the Home Office's Sir Ernest Holderness:

From our point of view it is very undesirable that he should remain here indefinitely and continue to develop what has until recently only been a small and inarticulate group of extremists.[1]
